IWA Initiatives / Safe Drinking Water in Developing Countries
The Safe Drinking Water in Developing Countries initiative seeks to enhance access to safe water in underserved regions through knowledge sharing, capacity building, and utility-led efforts. Leveraging the expertise of IWA’s Specialist Groups, this initiative unites global water professionals with diverse expertise, from water treatment to health risk management, to foster knowledge exchange, promote best practices, and encourage collaboration to accelerate progress toward universal access to safe drinking water, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. This initiative is a partnership between IWA, the National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES), Japan, and the World Health Organization (WHO).
Water Safety Planning (WSP) is a way to identify and manage risks at every stage of the drinking water supply process - from the water source to the tap.
