Biography

 Prof Kasan has acquired a blend of skills, knowledge and expertise over the past 20 years in the water sector. He has previously worked in the academic sector as a researcher, Head of an Academic Department and Dean of a Faculty of Applied Sciences. During his years in academia he was an active researcher and established a Water Research Centre staffed with full-time research staff. His outputs include training of many undergraduate and postgraduate students, many publications in accredited journals and presentations at national and international conferences. In addition he consulted to many leading companies. Prof Kasan’s present role is General Manager: Scientific Services at Rand Water.

Prof Kasan has played and currently plays a leading role in many local and international water related organisations. Some examples include: having served on the Council of the Water Institute of South Africa; non-executive director of Umgeni Water; non-executive director and chairperson of the Water Research Commission; non-executive director and Chairperson of Water South Africa and Vice-President of the International Water Association.

Prof Kasan’s educational and training background include a PhD in Science, Graduate Diploma in Engineering, Graduate Diploma in Company Direction, management and executive development programmes, several leadership programmes and he is a certified coach through the International Society of Neuro-semantics. He is also an Extraordinary Professor at University of Pretoria.
