Many accountants, when at a party or meeting someone for the first time, dread that question – ‘what do you do for a living?’ I welcome it as it gives the chance to explain that not only am I an accountant but that I work for IWA, and then discussion moves to IWA and its activities around the world.
Having trained and worked at Sayer Vincent, who is still one of the Top Chartered Accounts, specialising in charities, gave me a wealth of knowledge to apply in various charities, before joining IWA back in 2002.
As a Financial Controller at IWA, I have brought my audit and finance experience to help IWA in achieving its goal. A number of in-house training programmes at IWA together with my professional qualification as a Chartered Certified Accountant help me carry out my role effectively.
I enjoy working with staff from various cultures and new discipline brought in from Board and sub-committees. I enjoy being a secretary to the Finance and Investment Committee.
I am currently living in London and I am originally from Sri Lanka and I can also speak Tamil and Sinhala.
I have been a trustee and treasurer for various charities and currently with ‘’Vision of Love’’, a small charity supporting poor, elderly people towards improving their eyesight by offering fee cataract operation in developing countries.
Some say that my loyal support of England cricket team contradicts my belief in effective organisations. I see it as healthy escapism – alongside being a dad to two young kids.
