Inspiring Innovation to Shape Our Water Future

Announcing the Global Winners of the IWA 2014 Project Innovation Awards

Singapore, 22.08.14

The water sector is facing unprecedented global challenges, urgent and innovative action is necessary to define new solutions to the global water crisis and meet the needs of billions of global citizens.

The International Water Association Project Innovation Awards (PIA) is a prestigious global competition that recognises and promotes innovation and excellence in water management. The Project Innovation Awards forms part of a larger effort of the IWA to foster innovation in the water sector, from inventions to demonstrating large scale applications. Driving innovation, developing new frameworks to support their application and supporting the building of the capacities needed to implement these is at the heart of the IWA Project Innovation Awards.

Global winners of the 2014 PIA are already winners of regional PIA competitions in Asia-Pacific, East Asia, Europe & West Asia; and North America. A total of 49 regional winning projects were submitted for the PIA global competition. The regional and global competitions recognise excellence in achievements in six major categories: applied research; design; operations/management; planning; small projects; and marketing & communications.

All the PIA winning teams have presented leading examples of the “future is already here”. They are the front runners in shaping the future of water management through demonstrating outstanding contributions to water innovation.
