The SG promotes waste stabilization ponds WSP for wastewater treatment in both industrialised and developing countries; it also co-ordinates studies on the performance of full-scale and pilot-scale waste stabilization pond systems around the world; develops internationally agreed methodology for pond performance monitoring and performance evaluation; identifies research needs for the development of pond systems for biodegradable wastewater treatment; and develops international technology transfer mechanisms related to ponds technology. From the last two specialist conferences, the SG is now also working on the integration of ponds technology to a number of other wastewater treatment technologies, and the SG is also lately looking at the link between sustainable wastewater treatment technology such as ponds and green energy.
