The International Water Association’s Governing Members, meeting at the Association’s latest Governing Assembly / Annual General Meeting in London, UK, have voted for Prof Hamanth Kasan, PhD, to serve a second term as IWA President.
Voting for the presidency was the centrepiece of this annual gathering of IWA Governing Members from around the world. Alongside the regular business of the Association, the meeting provided an important opportunity for the Governing Members to strengthen ties and shape the future direction of IWA and action on its mission to secure progress on water and sanitation globally.
Hamanth’s current term runs to the conclusion of the 2026 IWA World Water Congress & Exhibition (4–8 October, Glasgow, UK). His second term will extend through to the close of the 2028 IWA World Water Congress & Exhibition in Kuching, Malaysia.
“This is an exciting time for IWA, water utilities and the world of water. Water professionals globally are looking to IWA to inspire, change, provide leadership, create value and impact. The prospect of continuing to serve IWA as President at this point in history creates excitement for me,” said Hamanth in his re-election statement.
A South African, Hamanth has brought his extensive sector experience to the role of President, featuring 22 years at Rand Water as well as longstanding active participation in IWA itself.
